For a long time, the treatment of
obituaries in The VVA Veteran has been unsatisfactory. Because
of space restrictions and the increasing number of deaths
we needed to report, the listings became increasingly brief.
We’ve decided to
change that and to use more fully the resources available
to us.
Starting with this issue, the obituaries in The VVA Veteran
will be even briefer than in the past. But the National Chaplain’s
page on www.vva.org will contain full-length obituaries that
list both achievements and family members.
Moreover, Fr. Phil
Salois has maintained a database of the full obituaries that
we were forced to edit due to space limitations. These full
obituaries, dating back through the last half-decade, will
be uploaded onto the National Chaplain’s
webpage, where they will appear with the VVA Memorial List
and the Ritual Book. In time, we hope that readers will be
able to go to the Memorial List and click on a name and the
full obituary will appear. —Editor

died July 22 from cancer. He was a life member of VVA Baltimore,
Maryland, Chapter 451.
Noah David Avery, 73, died February
5, 2007, from cancer. He was a life member of VVA Tuscaloosa,
Alabama, Chapter 301.
Raymond Paul Avery, 72, died March
14. He was a life member of VVA Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Chapter
301.
Margaret Rita Baughn, 62, died May 24 from metastatic
small-cell carcinoma of the lungs. She was a life member
of Associates of VVA Tulsa, Oklahoma, Chapter 524.
Thomas
L. Blair died in July. He was a member of VVA Pontiac, Michigan,
Chapter 133.
Gary G. Boggs, 55, died in 2006. He was a member
of VVA Enid, Oklahoma, Chapter 940.
Nancy Lee Borger, 62,
died August 2 of cancer. She was a member of VVA Stroudsburg,
Pennsylvania, Chapter 678.
Brian R. Brannon, 62, died December
28, 2006, from a seizure disorder. He was a life member of
VVA Grand Junction, Colorado, Chapter 57.
Charles S. Brown,
58, died August 14. He was a member of VVA Hyannis, Massachusetts,
Chapter 338.
Warren Michael Brown, 63, died August 27. He
was a life member of VVA Lindstrom, Minnesota, Chapter 684.
Robert
C. Bubon, 59, died December 22, 2004. He was a member of
VVA Sparta, Wisconsin, Chapter 462.
Theodore T. Buderman,
64, died July 22 from cancer. He was a member of VVA Pleasantville,
New York, Chapter 49.
Stanley Burns died August 10. He was
a member of VVA Mount Gay, West Virginia, Chapter 308.
Randy Callison died February 5. He was a member of VVA Oconomowoc,
Wisconsin, Chapter 635.
Daniel Cedillos, 60, died May 14.

S. Ciara, 63, died July 29 from multiple myeloma and congestive
heart failure. He was a life member of VVA Bay Villega, Ohio,
Chapter 249
Billy A. Clark, 74, died September 3. He was a
life member of VVA Gadsden, Alabama, Chapter 637.

Clay, 65, died July 23. He was a life member of VVA Longview,
Texas, Chapter 987.
Donald Collins, 61, died August 15, 2007.

Dempsey, 59, died April 7, 2005, from diabetes mellitus type
II and end-stage renal failure. He was a life member of VVA
Kansas City, Missouri, Chapter 317.
Robert L. Diller, 74,
died recently. He was a life member of VVA Port Huron, Michigan,
Chapter 284.
Karoly Dobi, 70, died August 18 from metastatic
lung cancer. He was a member of VVA Negaunee, Michigan, Chapter
380.
James Edward Dollar, 60, died October 7, 2006. He was
an at-large life member of VVA Washington.
Lonnie Aubrey Elkins,
62, died April 28 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.
He was a life member of VVA Gadsden, Alabama, Chapter 637.

Eltzroth, 61, died August 22. She was a life member of Associates
of VVA Merrillville, Indiana, Chapter 295.
Lavern
Garrison Footit, Sr., 65, died April 30. He was a life member
of VVA Pocono Chapter 678.
Joseph E. Foremny, 73, died May
6 from emphysema. He was a life member of VVA Negaunee, Michigan,
Chapter 380.
Larry Dee Foster, 64, died April 21 from agent
orange-related diabetes mellitus type II. He was a charter
member VVA Nampa, Idaho, Chapter 897.
Leroy E. Ganung, 66,
died June 28 from a heart attack. He was a life member of
VVA Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Chapter 635.
Gerald F. Goode, 59,
died August 23 from Agent Orange-related cancer. He was a
member of VVA Jamestown, New York, Chapter 865.
Kent E. Hampton,
64, died August 13, 2007. He was a life member of VVA Silvis,
Illinois, Chapter 669.
Phil Frederick Harris, 61, died August
28, after a motorcycle accident. He was a life member of
VVA Chattanooga, Tennessee, Chapter 203.
Richard A. Hatch,
61, died August 17. He was a member of VVA Hicksville, New
York, Chapter 82.
Gerald B. Heaton, 65, died recently. He
was a life member of VVA Grand Junction, Chapter 57, formerly
a life member of VVA Sacramento Chapter 500.
Marjorie Herrick,
87, died May 15 from a stroke. She was a life member of Associates
of VVA Kansas City, Chapter 317.
James D. Holt, 67, died September
13. He was a member of VVA Ponca City, Oklahoma, Chapter
750.
Stephen C. Huggard, 57, died June 9, 2007. He was a life
member of VVA Roseburg, Oregon, Chapter 805.

Charles Henry Kreiner,
66, died May 4, 2003. He was a member of VVA Arlington, Virginia,

Winford Dewayne Lamb died August 8 from Crohn’s
disease. He was a life member of VVA Yountville, California,
Chapter 702.
Francis Leichey died August 2007. He was a member of VVA
Marshfield, Wisconsin, Chapter 549.
Thomas M. LeMay, 61, died
July 22 from renal failure. He was a member of VVA Hamilton,
Montana, Chapter 938.
Charles E. Lewis, Sr., 67, died August
22 at his home from lung cancer. He was a member of VVA Chattanooga,
Tennessee, Chapter 203.
Osborne Jack Marsh, Jr., 60, died
August 4 from congestive heart failure. He was an at-large
member of VVA Kansas.
Michael Lee Marshall, Sr., 64, died
August 10. He was an at-large life member of VVA Florida.

Howard McMillian, 67, died July 31 from lung cancer resulting
from mesothelioma. He was a life member of VVA Wichita, Kansas,

Daniel George McPhie, 60, died May 9, 2008. He
was an at-large member of VVA Washington.
Luther Hayden Moreland,
59, died on August 16. He was a member of VVA Tupelo, Mississippi,
Chapter 842.
John S. Morrison died recently. He was an at-large
member of VVA North Carolina.
Robert Mowery, 63, died June
22 from hepatocellular cancer and cirrhosis of the liver.

Fred J. Papenhausen, Jr., 60, died March 6, 2005, from cancer. He was a member of VVA
