Region 3 REPORT
Thank You And Good Luck
BY BRUCE W. WHITAKER, DIRECTOR

A belated thank-you to all who made the 2008 Leadership Conference a success. Attendees from throughout VVA and AVVA were presented with genuine Southern hospitality by the South Carolina State Council and chapters and from local merchants in Greenville.

Region 3 is looking forward to having the same type of success and hospitality at the 2009 VVA National Convention in Louisville. The Kentucky State Council and chapters already are preparing to extend their hospitality to the Convention delegates.

A high turnover of State Council leadership occurred this year. “Welcome to the Jungle” is extended to Joe Kristek, the new North Carolina SC President; Charlie Hobbs, Tennessee; and Avery Taylor, South Carolina.

Best wishes for a successful term. We welcome back Darrel Martin, Kentucky; Ed Chow, Maryland; Dave Simmons, West Virginia; and Charlie Montgomery, Virginia.

Region 3 continues to have growth in membership and new chapters. We have 93 active chapters with 21 new chapters having started between September 1, 2007, and September 1, 2008.

One notable event with growth in membership is with Chapter 172 in Cumberland, Maryland, my home chapter. They have reached another milestone with 918 members. One thousand is fast approaching.
