ETABO COMMITTEE REPORT
BY ALAN GIBSON, CHAIR
With the economy in the shape it is
in, are you able to retire, or do you need to go back to
work to make ends meet? Durn ETaBO just may be useful after
all. With 17-25 percent of the returning veterans facing
unemployment, it’s time
for more than a few folks to step up to the plate to help
our younger brothers and sisters.
Many of you may not be able
to retire on your pensions because they have dwindled. As
a society—not just veterans,
but the whole society—we have been too involved in
looking out for No. 1. Remember hearing, “Look after
the troops and the troops will look after you”? This
attitude seems to have been forgotten by those who have served
and never understood by those who have not.
Each of us knows
that we can and could have done more, but it is never too
late to help others. “What is in it
for me?” you ask? Seems strange, but just like looking
after the troops, if you don’t, they won’t. When
you do, it comes back to help you when you weren’t
seeking it.
So when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
You are tough or you would not still be alive. Even with
all the aches and pains, it is not our fault we are still
alive. Just too tough to give up, I think.
So get up off your laurels and let’s get going. You
can do it, and that is a lawful directive.
