Thomas M. Yarosz, a member of Miami-Dade,
Florida, Chapter 620, received the prestigious Congressional
Black Caucus Veterans’ Braintrust Award September 26
in ceremonies held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington,
D.C.
Yarosz, a disabled Army Vietnam veteran and life member
of VVA, “has been a driving force for representing
and advocating for veterans’ concerns and issues, as
well as being a community activist when representing our
veteran population,” said Alvin W. Roberts, Chapter
620’s
1st Vice President. Yarosz “has an impeccable record
of spearheading numerous veterans’ projects that have
created jobs and housing. He also has headed successful clothing
drives, recruitment efforts, and chapter memberships. Overall,
he has been a spectacular force in civil and community service
to veterans, persons with disabilities, elderly, and children
for over 30 years.”
Named the Florida State Council’s
Member of the Year in 2007, Yarosz is a member of the Board
of Directors of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court Veterans
Committee. He also has been a strong advocate for veterans’ employment
and training services with the South Florida Investment Workforce
Board of Directors, a nonprofit organization responsible
for providing employment services to veterans and the community.
On many occasions he has worked to feed and clothe homeless
Vietnam veterans by finding community resources to help them.
He plays a major role in the annual Veterans Stand Down in
Miami by pitching in to help homeless veterans obtain housing,
clothing, and benefits.
“Thomas M. Yarosz has dedicated
his life to helping others,” Roberts said. “From
fundraising and recruitment efforts, to toy and food drives,
to mentoring JROTC cadets and building homes, he has displayed
an exemplary and remarkably varied record of volunteerism
and community service. He has been nationally recognized
for his exceptional achievements as a veterans’ advocate,
leader, mentor, and role model.”
