Macomb County, Michigan, Chapter 154 was named 2006 VVA
Chapter of the Year at the Awards Luncheon at the National
Leadership Conference in Tucson. The chapter received its
charter in 1984 and for the last 22 years has been one
of its communities and VVA’s most active service
organizations.
Chapter members work every day of the year.
They feed the hungry and work with veterans to help them
find jobs. The chapter makes regular visits to the local
VA hospital, bringing along good cheer and gifts for hospitalized
veterans.
The chapter runs a storefront Veterans Support
Center where veterans can receive service representation.
The chapter also seeks out veterans to explain the benefits
and services they have earned by virtue of their service
in the military.
Chapter 154 has a scholarship program for
veterans’ children
and grandchildren, has an extremely active Color Guard,
and runs the Veterans County Food Bank, where food is provided
for needy veterans and their families. The chapter also
supports the local food bank.
“Chapter 154 is one
of our most active and accomplished chapters and richly
deserves recognition as Chapter of the Year,” said
VVA President John Rowan. “They
more than live up to VVA’s motto, ‘In Service
to America.’”
