Before the Subcommittee on Military Quality of Life and Veterans Affairs And Related Agencies Committee on Appropriations United States House of Representatives Regarding The Department of Veterans Affairs Fiscal Year 2007 Budget Request

VVA presented its views on the fiscal needs of America’s veterans.

1. Most important is for the VA to significantly increase the requested amount by the Administration for operation of veteran’s health care system at the Department of Veterans Affairs for the fiscal year of 2007.
2. Eradicate the possibility of an unfair increase in TriCare, which has been discussed.
3. Elimination of the “widow’s tax”, where there is a dollar for dollar reduction in Dependency and Indemnity Compensation vs. the Survivor Benefits Plan annuity payments.
4. VVA supports the call for a much more effective GI Bill for Education and the increase funding to pay for it beginning this year.

VVA hopes changes can be brought to the budget so that veterans can get the proper treatment they deserve. In order to make this happen VVA suggested that the budget be based on an assured funding bill, which bases annual increments on growth in the veteran beneficiary of services population as well as health care inflation.
