2003 Candidates Statements

Mary Ellen White

I am a candidate for re-election to the position of National Secretary. Prior to this office I have served on several National VVA committees, the National Board of Directors, State Council President, Vice President and Secretary, various State level committees and several Chapter level positions. I spent nine years in a one room country school and went to the "big city" of 8000 for high school. Forty-two years ago I graduated from nursing school. A year prior to that, I joined the U.S. Army and when I graduated I was commissioned in the Army Nurse Corps. Eight years later I left the Army.

My family consists of 5 children, 7 grandchildren and 9 siblings plus my mother. I remain employed at the local hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. There have been terms on the Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs and the Iowa Veteans Council. I also participated in fund-raising for the Vietnam Women Memorial Project in D.C.

Two porjects I have recently become involved with and am very interested in are the new Project 112/Shad Task Force and local support group for people of the community who have family members in the military service, perhaps in Iraq or environs or other places in the world.
