Marshall R. Mudge, Jr.
Born: 10/28/1953 in
Milton, PA. Enlisted U.S.M.C. 24 December 1970.
Served, Vietnam with 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd
Marine Division, 1972. Discharged 7
December 1973.
Moved to Massachusetts in 1993 and became active with
Veterans immediately. First, as the resident/peer
counselor for the Sober Veterans House at the
Springfield YMCA. During this time, I decided to
devote my life to helping Veterans. Next, I became
active as a life member of VVA, serving in numerous
capacities from Chapter V.P., State Council Treasurer,
Benefits Coordinator, State Membership Chair. {3 Yrs.&
4 New Chapters}, and have served on the
National Membership/Benefits committees. I began
advocacy in 1995 with administrative discharges to get
ungraded for VA eligibility. In 1999, I completed the
VVA Service Representative training. I have been a
Benefits Counselor for the Springfield Bilingual
Veterans Outreach Center since December 2000 and carry
a client load of more than 200. For 2 years I've been
the Case Manager for the Veterans Program at the YMCA,
having come full circle. I am President of the Sfc
Jorge Otero-Barreto, Chapter #866, named for the most
decorated Puerto Rican Veteran from Vietnam, who is a
member. We've grown from 27 members to over 100 in 2
years, with 100% retention and the most diversity in
New England. My focus, when elected, is Membership,
especially Retention, Funding, and Advocacy. |
