Robert W. Maras
After six years as a Director-at-Large, I seek the
position of Region 2 Director and I want to give you a
sense of my motivation for doing so.
We need an individual with a proven track record of
serving our members in the Region. Over the past ten
years, I have done this as a State Council officer,
including two terms as State President. While on the
national board, I have been a committee Chair and
member of various committees within our organization.
It's important that we continue to work on enhancing
our membership; recruiting new members and
re-enlisting the nearly 100,000 plus members we have
lost since 1983; and, we must help our women veterans
who have been in the background for far too long.
We need to find alternative sources of income for our
organization, avoiding a dependency on one main
funding source. We need to seek out grants from
foundations, support from corporations or other groups
or government agencies that can help us.
We need to remain mindful of the Associates who are
key players within our organization, remaining an
inclusive organization and not an exclusive one.
In my years of service, I've learned that service to
our veterans and their families is not about what you
take out of life; rather, it is what you leave behind.
I want to continue that service.
I thank you for your support over these past years and
look forward to your continued support. |
