Jim Grissom I
enlisted in the Army in 1971. Upon completion of
Basic/AIT, I was off to Vietnam. I first served as a
"grunt'' with 101st Abn. Div; 1/327th and then the
2/5th CAV. I completed my 2-year tour with the "Big
Red One'' in Ft. Riley, KS. I joined VVA, Chapter 686,
Moses Lake, WA in 1996. I served as Membership Chair
for the WASC in 1997. In 1998 I was elected Vice
President, WASC. In 1999 I became the WASC President
and in 2000. I was reelected to the same position. In
2001 I was elected as the Region 8 Director, I've also
sat on the Benefits Committee for the last 4 yrs.
I'm seeking another term as Region 8 Director, as two
years has not been enough time to accomplish my goals
set in 2001. One of my goals was to establish 3 more
States Councils in Region 8. Since 2001, we've
established 2 new State Councils, Alaska and Idaho.
Wyoming is next on the list. Another goal was to
establish benefit programs in the Region. With the
determination of the Montana State Council, another
benefits program was established. We still
need to insure the VA addresses our health issues -
time is running out. For most of us living in Region
8, we live in rural America and our voice needs to be
heard loud. Let's make VVA a nationally recognized
name, A VOICE OF ALL VETERANS - including those now
coming home. Welcome home, brothers and sisters! |
