2003 Candidates Statements

 

   

 

Alan K. Gibson

After various assignments during 20 years of military service, to include a tour in RVN with the 101st Airborne Division and 25th Infantry Division (69-70), retired and finished a BS Degree in Administration; sold real estate; life insurance; stock, bonds & mutual funds; taught high school
social studies then accepted the opportunity to work at the Columbia, MO VA Hospital as a Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist. Retired from the State and devoted full time to VVA activities.

Joined Vietnam Veterans of America in 1989 and became a Life Member in 1995. Since that time have had the honor of serving as a Chapter President, Secretary & Treasurer; State Council VP (two years) & President (seven years) and as a member of the National BOD At-large (two
years). Presently serve on the Agent Orange; Employment, Training & Business Opportunity (EtaBO) (vice-chair) & Government Affairs Committees; one of the VVA representatives on the Task Force for Veterans Entrepreneurship & the Task Force on Veterans Preference & Government Accountability and previously served on the Finance Committee for four (4) years; testified before Congress on the Health Care & on Veterans Employment Programs (Disabled Veterans Outreach Program/Local Veterans Representative).

Will continue to be vocal in representing the membership to insure all veterans receive quality of life opportunities; will listen and act in the best interest of my Brothers and Sisters; will have a complete open door policy and get ALL information about VVA, its policies & activities to the
State Council Presidents and the membership. Without full knowledge of how & what YOUR organization is doing, sound recommendations will be hard to make. Your input is what determines the destiny and legacy of VVA. I look forward to serving you in whatever manner you feel I can accomplish the best results for you and VVA.

Other Veterans Organization membership includes: American Legion, 40/8, Disabled American Veterans (Life Member), Korean War Veterans Association, The Retired Enlisted Association (Life Member), Veterans of Foreign Wars (Life Member) and Missouri Association of Veterans
Organizations (Chaplain).

Married to Marsha for 22 years, have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. Serve on my local churches Pastor/Parish/Employees Committee (Chair), Finance Committee and Executive Council.
