The AVVA Board of Directors met in
Silver Spring, and many items were accomplished. The Board
approved next year's budget and revamped the financial
statement. The Finance Committee has done an outstanding job,
spending many hours creating a new statement. Also approved
were:
1. The State Start-up Kit. States that have submitted
the necessary signatures for incorporation will now go through
the system we created. I thank Marcia Hicks for her
outstanding work. States that have submitted signatures are
Maryland and Florida.
2. Dues rebates to states. The State reps will soon be
informed how this is going to work.
3. Regional Directors must reside inside the geographical area
of the Regions they represent.
4. Add the position of appointed deputy or alternate for each
regional director.
Many things have been added to the Leadership Conference for
AVVA: a seminar on health care; financial responsibility; what
it takes to be President, Vice President, Secretary, and
Treasurer; VAVS; and two great community service projects. I
look forward to everyone participating in these seminars.
This year, AVVA/VVA Project Friendship will help Shriners
Hospital. Please bring something in your suitcase. This is for
children who suffer many different types of illnesses. They
need our kindness, and I know that all AVVA and VVA members
will help make this a huge success.
In March, I went to Vietnam as part of the support team for
Sons and Daughters in Touch. It was a wonderful experience and
something that I have not been able to explain since
returning. Bill Duker did an outstanding job facilitating such
a large group. I thank him for a wonderful experience.
