Region 7 Report
Making it Happen
By Allen Manuel
I would like to thank all of you for your confidence in giving
me another term as your Region 7 Director. We have achieved many
great things in the past two years, but we can't stop now. We must
continue working on membership and communication between the state
councils, chapters, and members.
Region 7 started its own talk list in September. It is a very
good tool that our region can use to communicate between chapters
and the members. It is open to all VVA and AVVA members in Region
7.
Region 7 held a regional conference in Texarkana in July and
had a big turnout. George Beck was named Region 7 Veteran of the
Year. Region 7 Chapter of the Year awards went to: Arkansas
Chapter 846, Louisiana Chapter 689, Oklahoma Chapter 784, and
Texas Chapter 343.
It is very important to recognize individuals and chapters for
their outstanding work and service to Vietnam Veterans of America.
Chapter 278 did an excellent job putting the conference together.
Barry Hagge did an excellent job helping us with our conference.
Our National Convention was a big success. Now we need to move
forward. Region 7 welcomes Bill Meeks as VVA National Membership
Chair. I was appointed AVVA Special Adviser by Tom Corey, our
National President. I attended Veterans Day programs and banquets
with Incarcerated Chapters 689 and 847. Louisiana State Council is
very proud of our Incarcerated Chapter 689 in Angola. Eleven
chapter members installed the Moving Wall in Gonzales, Louisiana,
the week of November 11. It helped them in their healing
processes. We thank Warden Cain for his help.
The bottom line is: Let's get back to "Veterans Helping
Veterans'' and make it happen.
