Getting Around And Proud

The past six weeks have been a whirlwind tour of three of the four state councils in the region, plus a national board meeting. Attending the state council meetings in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia reaffirmed my belief that this region has to be one of the best in VVA. Not only was I impressed with the presidents of the state councils, but also with the chapter presidents, the chapter delegates, and members who attended.
The cohesiveness of everyone is, without a doubt, why they are so successful in their ventures--be it running bingo, smoking hams, or holding boiled dinners. They are doing what they do best: serving veterans and their families. They are not losing sight of their primary mission. They are involved in their communities’ activities and working with schools teaching about the Vietnam War. Educating our youth is especially important today when so many of our young men and women are being called upon to serve our nation.
If you already have a School Speakers Bureau, continue to march. If not, get one started today. Everything you need to get started is in the VVA National Education Guidebook.
Congratulations to Tampa Chapter 787 for being named VVA Chapter of the Year. This is a chapter on the move; it's got movers and shakers.
A special salute to Max Roberts for his appointment by the Governor to the Alabama State Board of Veterans Affairs. Max has been serving veterans for more than 15 years and is a great choice to serve the veterans of Alabama.
I am especially pleased to see that AVVA and VVA are continuing their relationship of working together. To say I am proud of what I've seen in the region is an understatement. Keep up the good work, take care of each other, have a safe holiday season and a joyful New Year. May our coming year be better than the last.
