Vietnam Veterans Assistance Fund Report
Fellow Vietnam Veterans And Supporters:
VVAF was founded in 1991 as a 501(c)(3) charity affiliate of VVA. It is managed by a Board of Directors comprised of eight VVA members. Every two years VVAF’s directors are nominated by VVA’s President and then approved by the VVA Board of Directors. According to the bylaws, these directors must be two VVA officers (excluding the VVA President), two members of the VVA’s Board of Directors, two VVA State Council Presidents, and two other VVA members.
VVAF receives donations from the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) that are disbursed to VVA-supported and endorsed projects. After soliciting and receiving grant requests, the VVAF Board reviews the proposals and decides which projects are worthy of support in accordance with the funds available.
Over the past ten years, VVAF has given out almost two and a half million dollars in support of veteran-related projects. In the past three years, VVAF has funded 56 projects in 23 states. The projects cover a multitude of areas, including the VVA Service Rep program, emergency assistance funds, disabled skiing, stand-downs, and various types of homeless projects. We have strong evidence that the programs VVAF funds make a significant difference in the lives of needy Vietnam veterans and their families.
How You Can Help
Every autumn government employees, military personnel, and postal workers participate in the Combined Federal Campaign, the largest employer-sponsored fund drive in the world. This fund drive generally starts with a Kickoff event. Here are some ideas for VVA members to enhance the CFC effort:
- Think about the federal government offices or installations in your area. Start now and get in touch with the base commander, hospital director, or office manager and ask if you can be part of their CFC Kickoff on behalf of VVAF. We will provide you with material.
- If you work for the government or serve in the military, participate in the CFC by donating to the Vietnam Veterans Assistance Fund by designating code #2115.
- Urge your co-workers to designate VVAF #2115.
If you do not work for the federal government, your workplace may participate in a state, local, or private-sector workplace fund drive. If so, please write in Vietnam Veterans Assistance Fund as your choice for your donation. In the absence of any fund-raising drive in your workplace, feel free to make a donation directly to VVAF and mail it to 8719 Colesville Road, Suite 100, Suite 400, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
