The Mines Advisory Group, a nongovernment, non-profit, humanitarian
mine action organization, is conducting a mine and UXO clearance project
in Gio Linh district of Quang Tri, Vietnam. Our site covers the area
of the former C-1 firebase. I believe the 12th Marine Corps had a mortar
and artillery battery there. I would be interested in contacting anyone
serving on C-1 who can give us information that could help us in our work.
The site has been prioritized as a community-development and resettlement
site. Clearing started on July 13, 1999. So far, we have found and destroyed
ten antipersonnel mines (M14 blast mines and M16 bounding fragmentation
mines). The total area to be cleared is 120 hectares. With a team of 25

members of A Btry., 2/11th, on March 16, 1969, when a National Guard artillery
unit fired defensive targets as SOP following a rocket attack on Camp Eagle.
