Bruce Whitaker Bruce Whitaker of Cresaptown, Maryland, served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a machine gunner with the 1st and 2nd Marine Divisions from 1966-69, including a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. His awards include the Purple Heart and the Combat Action Ribbon. A retired Maryland State Trooper, Bruce has been an active member of Vietnam Veterans of America since 1995. He has served as Vice president and President of Chapter 172 in Cumberland, Maryland; Treasurer and President of VVA’s Maryland State Council; and as the Director of VVA’s Region 3 on the VVA National Board of Directors. Bruce also is Director of the Maryland Trust for Vietnam Veterans and a member of the Veterans Advisory Committes of U.S. Sen. Barbara Milkuski and Rep. Roscoe Bartlett. He belongs to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Maryland Troopers Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the Knights of Columbus. Bruce and his wife Regina have three sons, Wesley, Kurt and Craig, and one grandson, Shane.
