Richard “Dick” Southern of Tuolumne, California, has been a leader of VVA Chapter 391 in Tuolumne County since 1996 when he was elected secretary, an office he continues to hold. He was elected Central District Director for VVA’s California State Council in 2000. He was elected President of the California State Council in 2002, and currently serves as the State Council’s second Vice President. The moderator for several VVA national talk lists, he was elected Region 9 director in 2007.

Richard Southern, in addition to his veterans’ advocacy, has served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Director of the Tuolumne Parks and Recreation District, and on the Advisory Council of his local Agency on Aging.
