Jerold A. “Jerry” Klein was drafted into the United States Army in March of 1967 and served in Vietnam from August 1967-68 as a rifleman with the First Air Cavalry Division’s Company A, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry. His awards include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Air Medal.

After his honorable discharge, Jerry Klein received a BA in political science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. In 1978, he earned his MA in public administration from Long Island University/C.W. Post College.

Klein retired as a Veterans Benefits Counselor for the Suffolk County (N.Y.) Veterans Service Agency in 2002, after nearly eighteen years in that position. In that capacity he advised veterans, their families, and family survivors about eligibility for benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He also trained other counselors in all aspects of veterans’ benefits law.

He was elected an at-large member of Vietnam Veterans of America’s Board of Directors in 1997, and re-elected in 1999, 2001, 2003, and 2005. He has chaired VVA’s Veterans Benefits Committee and was vice chair of VVA’s Veterans Affairs Committee. He served as Legislative Coordinator for VVA’s New York State Council from 1992-2002, and since 2003 has served as the Florida State Council Legislative Coordinator.

He lives with his family in Wellington, Florida.
