theraseed logoHow do you honor a veteran who bravely served our country? All of us know someone who has served our country—at one time or another—to whom our gratitude can never be fully expressed.

Chances are, since one out of six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime, you also know a man who has or will face this diagnosis. With so many treatment options available, it is difficult to know which one to chose. Do you know how to help research the options and select the best proven treatment?

This year, Theragenics Corporation® and its TheraSeed® prostate cancer treatment device are doing both—honoring those who have served our country and arming them, and their loved ones, with information to help them find the best proven treatment option for their prostate cancer.

Theragenics® is committed to educating men about proven treatment options for prostate cancer, including brachytherapy, a leading, non-invasive treatment. Since 2004, the Company has implemented national campaigns designed to educate men and their loved ones about proven prostate cancer treatments with the simple message, "Know Your Options." Every diagnosis is as unique as that individual, and every patient should be empowered to research and select the best proven treatment for him.

Know Your Options

to honor to cureTheragenics® has been helping doctors cure prostate cancer since 1987 when TheraSeed®, its premiere palladium-103 brachytherapy device, was introduced. This year, the Company is expanding its mission of curing cancer with a focus on honoring our nation’s veterans. The To Honor. To Cure. initiative was created to encourage veterans and their family members to make informed decisions about their health. The campaign also pays homage to our service men and women by helping fund visits to the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Why is it important to know your options? Get the facts.

  • According to the American Cancer Society:
    • Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men (after lung cancer).
    • One man in six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime.
    • If diagnosed early, prostate cancer is one of the most treatable cancers.
  • In August 2008, the University of California-Davis Cancer Center released findings of a study that found higher rates of prostate cancer among Vietnam veterans exposed to Agent Orange when compared to those who were not exposed:
    • Twice as many veterans have developed the disease.
    • Exposed veterans are diagnosed at ages 2 and a half years younger.
    • They are nearly four times more likely to develop more aggressive forms of prostate cancer.

About Treatment with TheraSeed®

get the factsTheraSeed® is a proven prostate cancer treatment device manufactured by Theragenics®. Just as experience matters to move up military ranks, a proven track record is equally as important for prostate cancer treatments. Not all treatments are equal, so if you are diagnosed with prostate cancer, get the facts before choosing any treatment. Here are a few about brachytherapy treatment with TheraSeed®:

Brachytherapy, commonly called seeding, is radiation therapy that fights prostate cancer with rice-sized radioactive seeds — such as the premiere palladium-103 treatment device, TheraSeed — implanted inside the body.

Brachytherapy is one of only three proven treatments for prostate cancer recognized by the American Urological Association.

Independent clinical studies following patients up to 15 years prove brachytherapy with TheraSeed® provides cure rates better than or equal to surgery.1

Compared to surgery, seeding is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that works with a lower risk of incontinence and impotence, and rarely impacts patients’ quality of life.2, 3

Brachytherapy is a one-time, 45-minute procedure that enables most patients to resume routine activities 2 to 3 days after treatment.
