Amendments & Milestone

As we close out 2008, the committee already has begun gearing up on membership-related Constitutional amendments for the 2009 VVA Convention. These proposed amendments will seek to address areas in the VVA Constitution that contain repetitive requests for a VVA member or chapter to submit an individual’s DD Form 214:

1) Prior to the election, the member shall submit a DD Form 214 to the Nominating Committee; and

2) After the elections are held, the Secretary shall forward to the Corporation a DD Form 214 for each duly elected officer and director.

VVA reached two milestones in 2008:

1) We have 58,249 members as of November 30; and

2) The life membership totals stand at 28,233.

That figure has surpassed the individual membership total, which is 27,555, for the first time in VVA history. As we begin the New Year, VVA will have a new handy membership tool: pocket-size leadership handbooks are in production and will be available in early 2009.

As I begin my eighth year as your membership chair, I want to thank everyone for their hard work on recruitment and retention of our members. I know VVA will continue to reach new membership milestones because of your efforts.
