VETERANS AGAINST DRUGS PROGRAM REPORT
BY DAVE SIMMONS, VAD EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
On
behalf of the Veterans Against Drugs Program, I want to
thank the many members of Veterans Against Drugs for their
participation in VVA’s
25th Anniversary of The Wall Parade in Washington. We were
honored to be asked to open the festivities with the Pledge
of Allegiance. We had a wonderful group of young people from
Washington, D.C., and the surrounding states who were proud
to help us.
The young people who marched with us in the parade
were, for the most part, members of the Boys and Girls
Club of America in the Washington, D.C., area. Veterans
Against Drugs has worked for many years with this after-school
program. Our long-standing working relationship with this
great organization has helped many young people to be safe
and drug free. I also would like to thank our sponsors,
VVAF and U-Haul Corporation.
The adult members of the program
are all active participants in the VAD Program and work for
the continued support of this very worthwhile effort. A welcome
added surprise was the participation by two active-duty members
of the military, Lance Corporal Paul Krause, USMC, and Army
PFC John Krause, the twin nephews of North Carolina State
Council President Paul Crowell.
Veterans Against Drugs continues
to grow and gain in strength each week. We have received
many new contacts and many requests for information. Our
thanks to the sponsors of the Parade and the participants.
