BY REV.PHIL SALOIS, M.S. Joseph M. Anderson died recently in San Mateo, California. He was born July 29, 1945. Anderson was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-San Mateo Chapter 464.
Richard A. Avaritt died recently in Baltimore. He was born July 12, 1948. Avaritt served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967-71 with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Baltimore Chapter 451.
James Frank Bailey died July 4 in Lapeer, Michigan, of heart failure. He was born December 19, 1951. Bailey served in the U.S. Army from 1969-73. He was a founding member and vice president of Vietnam Veterans of America-Lapeer Chapter 736.
Jerry W. Bailey died July 2 in Lawton, Oklahoma, of cancer. He was born April 16, 1943. Bailey served in the U.S. Army from 1962-83. He had a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Lawton Chapter 751.
Robert Stiles Baker II died July 20 in Topeka, Kansas. He was born August 24, 1943. Baker joined the U.S. Army in 1961 as a medical specialist and served in Vietnam in the Green Beret Special Forces. He received the Combat Medic Badge, Silver Star, Bronze Star with 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Service Cross, and Bronze Star with "V" Device. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Junction City Chapter 344.
Mack A. Bennett died June 22 in Mountain Home, Tennessee, of cancer. He was born October 7, 1943. Bennett was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Bluff City Chapter 824.
Richard M. Blair, Sr., died May 5, 2003, in Clarksville, Tennessee. He was born January 19, 1940. Blair was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Clarksville Chapter 396.
John C. Bradshaw died July 3, 2003, in Independence, Missouri, of liver disease. He was born September 30, 1949. Bradshaw served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from1969-70. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Kansas City Chapter 317.
Joseph Francis Broderick died June 19 in Brandon, Florida, of lung cancer. He was born June 26, 1923. Broderick served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Tampa Chapter 787.
Eugene M. Bushong died February 16 in Heath, Ohio. He was born September 12, 1928. Bushong served in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 30 years. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Newark (Ohio) Chapter 55.
Harvey Lee Buzek died June 19 in Clear Lake, Texas, of heart disease. He was born May 22, 1945. Buzek served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1966-67. He was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Schulenburg Chapter 870.
John Albert Cherry, Sr., died April 23 in Williamston, North Carolina. He was born May 17, 1936. Cherry served in the U.S. Army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a paratrooper. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Greenville Chapter 272.
Donald Keith Cox died June 21 in Lawton, Oklahoma, of cancer. He was born September 4, 1939. Cox served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. He was a charter member and treasurer of Vietnam Veterans of America-Lawton Chapter 751.
Mark A. Cox, Sr., died July 22 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was born November 30, 1952. Cox served in the U.S. Army from 1970-92. He served in both Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Lawton Chapter 751.
Gilbert H. Daniels, Jr., died July 12 in Orlando, Florida. He was born August 9, 1927. Daniels served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 27 years of service. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Orlando Chapter 761.
Calvin G. Evans died recently in Baytown, Texas. He was born January 29, 1934. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Baytown Chapter 922.
George Gerdes died recently in Trenton, South Carolina. He was born December 25, 1948. Gerdes was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Birmingham Chapter 416.
Frederick Hinz, Jr., died June 25 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, of Agent Orange-related acute lymphocytic leukemia. He was born August 11, 1947. Hinz served in the U.S. Navy from 1966-70 with two tours of duty in Vietnam aboard the USS <I>Bennington (CVS-20) HS-8 and USS <I>Hornet (CVS-12) HS-2. He was a charter member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Hayden Lakes (Idaho) Chapter 673.
Larry Hock died recently in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born November 4, 1945. Hock served in the U.S. Army from 1968-74 with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Anchorage Chapter 904.
Billy Wayne Hunter died January 26 in Savannah, Georgia, of a heart attack. He was born March 6, 1948. He served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Savannah Chapter 671.
Wesley F. Jarred died July 24 in Grants Pass, Oregon, of cancer. He was born December 20, 1930. Jarred served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America-Grants Pass Chapter 867.
Dean Carl Johnson died February 2 of myocardial infarction due to diabetes and hypertension. He was born September 9, 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Hopkins Chapter 62.
Lonnie David Keel died recently in Atwater, California. He was born February 2, 1951. Keel was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an at-large member of Vietnam Veterans of America-California.
Scott W. MacKenzie died July 29 in Athol, Massachusetts. He was born August 27, 1947. MacKenzie served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a member Vietnam Veterans of America-Athol Chapter 340.
David Paul Mahn died August 12 in Norwood, Massachusetts, of a massive heart attack. He was born on January 17, 1941. Mahn served as a chaplain in the U.S. Naval Reserves and the Mississippi National Guard. He was activated during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He was a member and chaplain to Vietnam Veterans of America-Stoneham Chapter 837.
Marshall P. Mitchell died recently in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born June 20, 1938. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Birmingham Chapter 416.
Timothy D. Morton died November 17, 2003, in Polk City, Iowa. He was born September 18, 1946. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Des Moines Chapter 490.
Timothy J. Mueller died January 7 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, of a massive heart attack. He was born December 3, 1947. Mueller was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Cuyahoga Falls Chapter 34.
Stephen E. Paquin died April 12 in Clearbrook, Minnesota. He was born January 11, 1952. Pacquin was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-St. Cloud Chapter 290.
Darrell Parrott died August 2 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Alpena Chapter 583. He was a member of the Michigan VVA State Council and the State Agent Orange chair. He also served on the National VVA Agent Orange Committee.
Lawrence W. Pennybaker died June 17 in Westminster, California. He was born January 1, 1923. Pennybaker was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Irvine Chapter 785.
James Ramsey died August 19 in Billerica, Massachusetts, of liver disease. He was born July 12, 1948. Ramsey was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Stoneham Chapter 837.
Dennis Ray Retherford died April 30 in Kenwood, Kentucky. Retherford served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967-68 as a helicopter mechanic. He was awarded the Aircraft Crewman Badge. He was a life member and secretary of Vietnam Veterans of America-Florence Chapter 88.
Edward R. Rivera died May 27 in Epsom, New Hampshire, of a heart attack. He was born November 23, 1932. Rivera served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Bow Chapter 41.
James A. Royal died recently in El Paso, Texas. He was born February 14, 1938. Royal served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-El Paso Chapter 844.
Ronald C. St. John died recently in Park River, North Dakota. He was born November 5, 1943. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Mayville Chapter 374.
David E. Schilling died in June 2003 in Mosinee, Wisconsin. He was born on January 6, 1948. Schilling served in the U.S. Army from 1969-72 with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Wausau Chapter 479.
Warren A. Seymour died recently in Peoria, Illinois. He was born August 11, 1947. Seymour served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965-69, with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was an at-large life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Illinois.
Robert G. Smith died recently in Odessa, Missouri. Smith was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an at-large life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Missouri.
Philip R. Steinmetz died recently in Tiffin, Ohio. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Fostoria Chapter 440.
George R. Thaler died recently in Athens. He was born January 5, 1944. Thaler served in the U.S. Army with a tour in Vietnam. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Athens Chapter 511.
Larry Eugene Thomas died May 7 in Marion, Kentucky, of a heart attack. He was born July 24, 1948. Thomas served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Paducah Chapter 337.
Clayton Logan Walton died August 1 in Fort Valley, Georgia. He was born August 6, 1947. Walton served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1968-69 and was awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Warner Robins Chapter 902.
David E. Witmyer died June 20 in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania. He was born May 23, 1943. Witmyer served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Division. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Pottstown Chapter 565.
Michael David Wittenwyler died April 6, 2003, in Madison, Wisconsin, of cancer. He was born on August 24, 1945. Madison served in the U.S. Army with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, and later stationed in Tay Ninh and Chu Lai, Vietnam. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Madison Chapter 220.
Harold A. Woodruff died on July 21 of death was Agent Orange-related cancer. He was born August 31, 1945. Woodruff served in the U.S. Navy from 1967-68. He was also a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Mt. Vernon Chapter 212. He served two terms as President of the Washington State Council from 1990 to 1994, and then became Region 8 Director.
J.C. Wotten died recently in Ohio City, Ohio. He was born June 14, 1946. Wotten was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America- Celina Chapter 783.
