Our second Biennial
Meeting is fast approaching. A lot of planning has gone into
this meeting. To date, no bylaw
changes have been submitted. As you may know, no changes to the
bylaws can be made by the Board of Directors. They only can be
made at a biennial meeting. That means there will be no bylaw
changes until 2004.
This year's AVVA/VVA
Project Friendship is helping the Esperanza En Escalante
Homeless Center in Tucson in August. Their wish list is posted
in this issue of The VVA Veteran. They have a terrific
program for the homeless. Please put something in your suitcase
to help those veterans and their families.
We are also
collecting funds for Sons and Daughters in Touch for their trip
to Vietnam in 2003. Please pass the hat
at your chapter and state council meetings. They need our help.
This year we also are
raising money for our scholarship fund by having duck races. The
races will take place on Wednesday, August 14, from 1-6:00 p.m.
Sonja Holybee has some great prizes to give out, so please join
in the fun.
AVVA will be having a
Remembrance Ceremony at the Leadership Conference on Wednesday
from 7-9:00 p.m. It will be organized by Patsy Varnell, Lee and
Patty Fisher, and Mary Miller. It will be a very moving evening.
I would like to take
this opportunity to say that I have enjoyed the last two years
as your President. The Board of Directors has accomplished the
goals it set out two years ago, and it has been an extreme
pleasure to work with each of these individuals.
